Maria and Hashib: murdered by building speculation and by racism The newspapers talk about an “accident” and a “casualty”. It is all lies. Maria and the little Hashib have been murdered. They have been murdered by building speculation and by a system that prevents to find decent houses at a reasonable price in Rome (like in other towns, and sometimes more than in other towns). Beyond every reconstruction of the facts, the main responsibles of Maria’s and Hashib’s death are big builders, property companies, banks, and housekeepers. The responsibles are the boss of the building trade, who impose higher and higher prices, and force tens of people to live crowded together like beasts into one small house. But the racist laws and policies that the various Italian governments are carrying on against immigrant workers are responsible too. Italian and Western governments and capitalists (that is, the governments that bomb, rob, and destroy your countries) use the racism to blackmail immigrant workers and to try to prevent them from organizing and fighting for their sacrosanct rights. The racist propaganda is also used to divide Italian workers from immigrant workers. The governments and capitalists want to put the one against the other one. They want to incite a war among poor, in order to better and more exploit all of us. Police blows on Saturday against the small garrison of solidarity with Maria and Hashib have been an intimidatory message from the Prodi government. The government wants to say immigrants to be silent, to suffer humiliations, oppression and super-exploitation without protesting and fighting. The government wants to say Italian workers and young people to keep off the immigrants and to prepare to passively accept a future that does not look promising even to them. These threats and intimidations must be fully rejected by fighting. Indeed, only by fighting it will be possible to overcome institutional and extra-institutional racism and to prevent further tragedies like the one in via Buonarroti. Therefore, it is necessary to carry on with the mobilization and the organization, in order to build a movement on a national scale. A movement of immigrant workers united together, beyond every “difference” of religion or nationality. A movement that would make every effort to succeed in the difficult but essential task of linking to Italian workers in the organization and mobilization.
